I focused on the work of Marc Webb as inspiration for my final project. He is well known mainly in the realm of music video direction. He has directed videos for groups from My Chemical Romance to AFI and Good Charlotte. The works I have chosen as examples of what I will attempt to do in my final project are, "Move Along" by All American Rejects, "The River" by Good Chralotte, "She Hates Me" by Puddle of Mud, "Dirty Little Secret" by All American Rejects, and "Work" by Jimmy Eat World. These pieces/videos don't all include spoken word as my final will, but they all contain different points of view from multiple people on one topic, which is what i am striving to do. I am interviewing some friends about the role music plays in their lives then cutting it and editing it to make it flow better and look more interesting. I think Marc Webb puts a lot of thought into his work and always tries to make it cohesive and interesting to the viewer even if the topic is lacking in content. This is something i hope i will be able to accomplish with my final piece.

Final Project: Idea 3

I have never really been great at illustration-type work, but my brother has recently has completed writing a series of childrens' stories and keeps begging me to do the artwork for them. If I choose to do this project I will have to overcome a lot of my fears in the artistic world. I would choose one of the stories to illustrate then in still frames make the story come to life on imovie, coupling my illustrations with his story.

Final Project: Idea 2

I have spent a lot of time thinking about life lately and how one of the few coping mechanisms I utilize is music. I then realized that music plays a large role in so many peoples lives and I thought it would be interesting to interview people and see what kinds of music they listen to, why they are drawn to them, and what role the music plays in their lives. For this I would use video and make a sort of interesting montage of all the different peoples feeling and ideas about music and its effect on them.

Here in a rather pathetically drawn storyboard I have shown what my first idea for the final project is. It is basically the process of making music. It starts with a guitar riff, then lyrics and a melody, revisions, bringing it to life with the full band, recording, and creating a CD.

Final Project

I can't say for sure what exactly it is that I would like to tackle for my final poject but I am pretty sure it will have to do with music, and i am pretty positive it will be video. Maybe some sort of exploration of the creation of music, or a music video that has to do with the concept of time for one of my bands songs. Something interesting...

13-Principal stands looking through his window blinds, "These kids, they're determined."
14-kid at fountain principal is looking at.
15-Another kid at fountain. Principal speaks, "They'll go just about anywhere to find a leach."
16-Flashes to principal running outside yelling "HEY."
17-Two boys at fountain look up and start to run. Hear principal yell "HEY" in background.
18-Principal running after two boys yelling, "Don't you run from me."
19-Zoom through kids in classroom to back of leg of boy in front row with a leach attached to the back of his knee. Voice of boy says, "A lot of times friends teach you how to do it."
20-Boy and girl at desks. Boy continues to speak, "You hear people talking about sloming over the weekend,"

I love and miss you Matt!

Last Tuesday a good friend of mine from high school commited suicide. I don't know what to say or how to act anymore. I keep pretending that nothing is wrong, that I'm okay with everything that surrounds me...but I'm not. In the past month I have lost two friends, and in my life I've lost many. It follows me and I'm getting sick of it.
I was Matt's first kiss and loved him so much. He was one of the nicest people I have ever met, and we will all miss him more than words can express. I hope that he is at peace, even if the rest of us had to suffer for him to grasp it. He deserves it.

Assignment #2 Subject

For the assignment this week I immediately began writing about something that has been torturing me lately for some reason...my old boyfriend. He passed away some time ago in a drunk driving accident. I figured that this was a good topic because it is something that has really shaped me as a person, but because I do not know too many people in the class and I am not usually willing to talk openly about the subject I decided to try to choose something else. At least that was my mind set until I found out that yet another friend of mine from high school overdosed on heroin on Monday morning (Feb. 5). This changed my mind. Even though I am very closed on the subject, maybe I should try to be more open. People need to understand how much they hurt everyone else around them when they make bad choices without thinking of the possible outcomes.

I hope you finally found peace.

Assignment 1 Response

For this assignment I chose to document every time I encountered music within the span of a week. I decided upon this topic because I know that music is very much a large part of my life, and thought it might be interesting to see how much of a role it really does play in my day to day experiences. When completing the assignment I realized that music does in fact have a very large impact on my life...almost obsessively so...okay maybe really obsessively so. But what can I say? I always joke around with people saying "music is my life!" and in observing its actual role in my life over one week I can admit that it pretty much is.

Today has been a long day and I can't wait to go back to my room and watch some Steven's Untitled Rock Show.
